Originally released exclusively in Japan in 1999, 70s-style Robot Anime Geppy-X became one of the most outrageous and ambitious anime shooters of the CD-ROM era. Built at the height of the late-90s CD-ROM boom, the original PlayStation release spanned four discs and featured over 8,000 hand-drawn animation frames, truly an unprecedented production scale for a 2D shooter. This wasn’t just a game inspired by anime—it was a full-blown 70s super robot TV series you could play!
It’s the year 197X…
A mysterious force calling itself the Cosmic Demon Empire suddenly launched an assault on Earth, commanding an army of colossal beast-shaped war machines known as the Space Beasts. Meanwhile, at a certain top-secret Space Robot Laboratory somewhere in the Far East, preparations had been made “just in case something like this ever happened”. Thus, the newly developed transforming and combining combat robot GEPPY-X was deployed into action.
Never before released outside of Japan, 70’s-Style Robot Anime GEPPY-X will now be available to play worldwide!
A love letter to Japanese mecha anime from the 70’s, this fast-paced 2D side-scrolling shooter has undergone a transformation of its own. Battle the Cosmic Demon Empire with quality of life improvements such as faster load times, rewind, save states, and more!
Experience GEPPY-X with subtitles in eight new languages and full restoration of the 8,000 hand-drawn frames* ***from the original Betacam master tapes. The original PlayStation release squeezed the animation into four discs at 320x240 resolution and only 15fps. For this new release, each “episode” has had its opening theme, previews, commercials, and end credits re-digitized and restored to its original 24fps.
